College made safer with Lakelands diversion

Murray MLA Murray Cowper has welcomed the latest announcement to have some of the traffic near Mandurah Baptist College diverted via alternative entrances to the Lakelands Estate.

He has been working closely with the College and residents in his electorate to ensure that a plan for alternative access is implemented in cooperation with  Main Roads, the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, and developers Peet Limited.

In May this year he took the community’s grievance to parliament, including photos of the busy intersection and letters from concerned parents.

A petition was tabled last week with 246 signatures from anxious community members and parents, saying that ‘unless Lakelands traffic is urgently diverted, we fear that serious injury or death will occur.’

Main Roads and the developers now have plans to address the problem by the end of the year, by installing traffic lights opposite the Lord Hobart Drive intersection and allowing alternative access by extending Pebble Beach Boulevard into Lakelands.

“I am very pleased to hear that our concerns have been acknowledged, however neither I nor parents of children at the school will be completely at ease until these plans are fully implemented.” Mr Cowper said.
