K9 Rescuers Acknowledged
Murray Cowper MLA visited K9 Dog Rescue Shelter in Nambeelup last week to congratulate the volunteers on their tireless efforts and to inform them of their nomination for a Community Service Award.
“Animal shelters play an enormous role in the community by providing shelter for mistreated and abandoned animals, and giving them a chance to find new homes.”
“K9 Dog Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers, and exists entirely on donations, memberships and fundraising activities.”
“They do a great deal on educating the public about responsible dog ownership, and dog training, and rehome over 500 dogs per year, many who would have otherwise been put down at the dog pound.”
Mr Cowper was saddened to hear how Kia (pictured) and her puppies were found – abandoned in a truck bay on the Brookton highway.
“I urge all pet owners to sterilise their animals and seriously consider their long-term commitment to pet ownership before taking animals on.”
He also is encouraging Murray and Mandurah residents to become members by paying just $20 a year to help K9 Rescue continue its excellent service to the community.
