Call for comments on bottled gas prices
Yunderup residents and others in the Murray region without reticulated gas are being urged to comment on a new report into the affordability of bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use.
“The price of LPG bottled gas has doubled in the past five years, reaching an average of over $100 a bottle,” Murray MLA Murray Cowper said.
“This is particularly unfair for the 2000 or so Yunderup residents who do not have access to reticulated gas.”
“It is also not environmentally responsible to expect so many outer metropolitan residents rely on electricity or wood fires for heating their houses and water as many Yunderup resident are now doing.”
Yunderup resident Jill Boyle is anxiously awaiting the day when she can use gas for heating.
“We have all the pipes ready to go – it’s just a matter of someone connecting us to the grid.”
Mr Cowper supports many of the recommendations made in the report on bottled gas, including giving low-income families relying on bottled gas higher rebates under the solar hot water heater rebate program.
“I urge all those who are currently relying on bottled gas to comment on the report, available from my office, or from www.energy.wa.gov.au. Please call Murray Cowper’s office on 9583 3830 for further information.
